Ground School Instructions

The best way to complete the Pilot Online Ground School is simply to follow the course as presented, completing each lesson to 100% in the order given. There are several lessons, as well as an Introduction and Conclusion (Test Tips). For each lesson, follow these steps to complete the material:

  1. Objective: The first screen displayed explains the lesson objective.
  2. Read: Read the assigned chapter(s) from the online aviation textbook for a comprehensive lesson on the given subject. This textbook will serve as your foundation to the required aeronautical knowledge.
  3. Watch: Watch an instructional presentation of the subject matter, using 3D and animated graphics, in-flight video, and tips from real flight instructors from the classroom, in the airplane, and at the airport.
  4. Test Prep Overview: The ASA Test Prep explanatory text then displays, providing a concise summary of the subjects and what you'll be tested on during the FAA knowledge exam.
  5. Prepware: Study with sample, representative FAA questions in order to test yourself on the subjects learned and prepare for the end of lesson quiz and FAA Knowledge Exam. Once you’ve reviewed the questions and feel confident on the subject material you can move on to the quiz. A 25-question Quiz is presented at the end of each lesson and must be passed with a score of 80% or better to complete the lesson. Click Exit to close the study or quiz sessions (you can elect to Save your progress where you last left off — or exit without saving); click Finish to grade - you will then see the graded quiz, complete with explanations.
  6. Conclusion: The course concludes with 2 full-length practice tests that simulate an actual FAA Knowledge Exam. You must score 80% or better on both of these to complete the course. Once this is done, you will receive an endorsement (test authorization) to take your official FAA Knowledge Exam as well as a graduation certificate, suitable for framing.
